CE653B: Advancements In Concrete

Course Description

Different types of advanced concretes have been increasingly used in different situations for construction practice. While some of them are property or performance-specific, others are environment or application-specific. This course introduces students to the production and properties of special types of concretes which can be produced by changing the mixture proportions of concrete, compounds in cement, cement binder itself, etc., or by adding special materials or inclusions such as fibers, admixtures, etc. The special features of this concrete differ greatly from that of conventional concrete and hence, this course will expose students to a better and in-depth understanding of such concretes. 

 

 

*** THIS COURSE WILL BEGIN AFTER THE MID-SEMESTER EXAMINATION. THE FIRST CLASS IS ON SEPT. 21st. ***

 

 

Lecture Time: Wednesday: 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, Friday: 11 am to 12 noon and 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm

Important Note: 

 

(a) This course is an advanced course in the construction materials field and hence, the students are suggested to take the CE654A-Concrete Science and Engineering course (in the first part of the semester) together with this course (CE653B-Advancements in Concrete) in the second part of the semester. This process will help you to be prepared for this course. 

 

(b) Students may please note that this course is a modular course, starting from the middle (1st class starts from Sep. 21st) of the semester and completing by the end of the semester. Since the duration is only 6 weeks, please be completely involved in the course.
